This was a difficult day.
This is the sonnet I made for my maternal grandfather, a science teacher who rose to become a college tutor, and eventually a principal. I always treasured him, as did the rest of his family and those around him. And there was no rivalling his warmness or indeed his sharp wit and intelligence. He gave so much to his community, and he deserved the best send off he could have wished for. I had hoped to read this out at his funeral today, but only one reading was allowed. Instead, a handwritten copy of this sentimental piece was placed inside his coffin, and I left another copy with my mother.
Farewell, Grandad. You will be missed forever more.
