Does anybody ever wonder whatever happens to mascots from major sporting events (e.g. Summer and Winter Olympics, the Special Olympics, etc.) when they retire?
I'd given it some thought, when the 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament began, and I saw the South African mascot 'Zakumi' the leopard. He looked so thin and trim, I'd immediately wondered about his future, long after the games end in July.
To put this situation into perspective, I had the lean leopard meet a mascot from the past: 'Striker' the dog from the 1994 World Cup (held in America) - who, as you can easily see, let himself go! This amused 'Zakumi', but the corpulent canine had a comeback for the leopard - that should give him a moment to paws... er, I mean pause! :-P

i wonder what happend whit Footix the french one from 98 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.....ce98mascot.png and whit Goleo from Germany 06 :P
I don't know really. Maybe he decide to just give up and enjoy the food. Or became this way by being busy with another job and his diet change to one on the go. It is kinda of hard to think of reason for becoming fat except the basic. But do we really need a reason for it most of the time? It just seems happen for no reason or another. Let hope you come up with something.
Thanks, Andy! I actually used one image of 'Striker' - posing with the soccer ball (er, football) under foot - from a small magnet on my bedroom closet door, and I simply packed the pounds on him (not just on his belly, but adding thickened limbs and swollen jowls, as well).
If it's of any consolation, Andy, I'm that old, too! BTW, I also have a few other 'Striker'-related items from the 1994 World Cup, including a few PVC figures of the dog (in other soccer poses), a small plushie of him, and his image on a 'clacker' (a noisemaker which, compared to the vevezula, could be played in a public library without disturbing other readers)!

It doesn't really do justice to the canine mascot. Maybe one day, I'll draw a lean version of 'Striker'.
Many years ago, I drew a picture of two Olympic mascots - Hodori the tiger (from the Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea) passing a (relay race) baton to 'Cobi' the dog (from the Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain). I think it's in my "FA" gallery...
