In Hallownest and the nearby kingdoms, Lumaflies are simple bugs used for illumination. Basic and easy to find, commonplace.
On the surface, they are seen as the offspring of the LumaFly Mother. An enigmatic Higher Being that keeps to herself and her swarms. Revered as a source of light and guidance in the dark night sky. With a flap of her sweeping wings she released scales of light, becoming lumaflies. Her children spreading forth and dotting the dark blanket above providing points of light for travellers, helping navigate thier journeys with familiar swarms(constellations) and keeping the utter darkness at bay.
Her followers try to follow in her footsteps, tending lumaflies and helping light paths and dark sections of the world with thier soft glowing light.
I'm still working on her. I don't have an actuall name for her yet just a title.
