This one comes with a bit of backstory:

When I was but a wee lad, first dipping my toes in this muck and mire that is the fandom, I frequented the Squeaky Clean Furry Archive. There I found an artist who was willing to critique art sent to them. This artist was also one who had a no-nudes policy. So what did I do? I sent a number of pics, chiefly among them a topless picture of Laso (which has long been lost to the sands of time). Expecting no reply or a harsh one, instead I got back a line that has stuck with me to this day:

"I really love the coloring on the boots!"

It was... a compliment? Maybe they were just trying to be nice, but I was floored. This hadn't happened before (and still doesn't happen very often). It's been-- well, a really long time-- and it has still stuck. I drag that compliment and the feeling with it out in my darkest days and chisel it against the sturdiest of art blocks.

So, if you've read this far and have an artist whose work you really like, do me a favor and tell them. Be specific. You might just make their day.
