Cellular osmosis is the process by which water moves through the cell membrane, from an area of high concentration to a lower one (that is, there's lots of water outside, but less inside). I would think an osmosian sergal would interact with a chemical/mineral/whathaveyou and through a similar process, sort of spread it into itself. It would be a really cool, power, actually, and you could get a lot of sergal tf art out of it. But it wouldn't be as magical.
Anyway, I think that the intention is that the crystals are magical in some way and basically have a flesh-to-stone touch attack that doesn't miss because the sergal willingly touched them.
But aside from "turning into crystal" it was not really specified, so it could just as well be an osmosian power on the part of the sergal.

Some of them are really borderline nonsensical/useless, like one that's a Smurf-sized alien with a fat head that supposedly makes him smarter or something.
Oh also later on he meets the creator of the thingie and it gets upgraded to have more forms.

I think Synx was making a ben10 reference with the "Osmosian" (I actually had to look that up, but when they described the character I knew exactly who they were talking about). Yeah, my much younger siblings watch ben10 much in the same way yours watched swat kats I guess.

Looking at the promo for this "generator rex" thing, it makes me feel like I need to get cable again as it seems I've been missing out. Was able to watch some of "the boondocks" online, but I haven't caught any of the FMA remake. also missed a bunch of the venture brothers.
