Another pic from
sonicsweeti... I was going to stay out of her latest raffle, then I had a great idea and so I entered, then I forgot the idea, then I actually won the raffle, and so then I had to come up with a new idea. Fortunately, I tend to have lots of them...
So, there's a musical instrument known as a carillon. A carillon is basically a bell tower with dozens of bells all attached to a single control panel, keyboard, or big roll player so they can all be rung from one central location and used to play music. There was one where I grew up in Victoria, the Netherlands Centennial Carillon, which was right downtown and near the Royal B.C. Museum. It was always fun to listen to, even if they were always having worries over who would take over when the current person retired. Carillonneur is not exactly a common occupation.
This tower is actually based off the Exhibition Place Carillon here in Toronto, which is not only where I live now, but also has the advantage of the bells being visible and accessible from the outside, making it perfect for someone giant to play a little more directly, more like a xylophone...
Given the season and the instrument, 'Carol of the Bells' seems the most appropriate name.
I hadn't originally considered making this part of the 'Being a macro means...' series, but it would probably work as '... if you find a musical instrument you can actually play, you learn how to play it.'

Ah, the carillon... which I know of because of the Ren Faires nearby and "Cast in Bronze" which was a performance of interesting music I would make time to sit and listen to. (The performance did go to "America's Got Talent" but got nowhere... seemed it was just not understood what the performer was going for.)
Yes, it's an impressive instrument to play, and considering there can be a slight lag between hitting the levers on the keyboard and actually getting the sound, not to mention that you have a lot less control over when the sound stops, it takes a fair bit of practice to get it right. Which is part of why finding people to play the carillons that exist can be quite a job search.
