More concept art regarding the Ajshar, the catfolk species of my fantasy setting, and helmet designs as well.
If I had time I'd do a whole reference on "how Ajshari warriors dress for battle and what are their military tactics", but I think this idea will just end up in my neverending pile or works-I-will-never-do. XD
Regarding the helmet, the crest is made of very thin metal, and it's main purpose is to protect the ear and cover the ear holes on the actual "main" helmet. The "beak mask" is worn by sliding it down that metal "stick" on the forehead, and then by securing it on the sides thanks to two sets of pins.
The overall aesthetic is meant to symbolize the Raakish bird, one of the apex predators living in Ajshari lands. These giant terror-birds are considered sacred animals and used as war-mounts by nobility and by the desert nomads.

The amount of detail you put into armaments and species of your settings acts like a large pennant, flagging the attention of passing onlookers. Such efforts evoke a memory of Tolkien's art work, not in style but purpose. Through his cultural work (maps, history, art, poetry, etc) we come to know Middle Earth with greater intimacy. The function and decoration of the helm pressed the vague memory of Numenorian helms as painted by Tolkien. Again, not in appearance, but in function of establishing a cannon.
I know you have an ongoing comic, but do you plan on novelizing any of your material?

Wow, that's a fascinating concept and an impressive design! :D The beak mask and the 'feathered' crest make the warrior look 'in-human' and unearthly - creating a just perfect intimidation effect. ;P I agree with some of the other commenters that a beak this long would probably be a hazard in battle, but the crest protecting the ears is a very sound idea.
And woah, the decorations on this armor and weaponry! Down to the swirls on the beak mask and patterns on the sword handle, they are purely amazing. :)
