Unless he flashed a badge I wouldn't expect her to give the room number but this may have been simpler times.
Asking the desk lady to call the room would have been the smarter thing to do.
Saying hello especially after being asked in when unexpected would have too.
I chalk all of the "bad calls" he's making to stage-fright and excitement as he mentioned.
I'm guessing the situation will snap him back into his usual wits though.
