Smells alone won't stop hungry mice. I once found an old bar of "Irish Spring" soap left in a stored car. Its strong stink is purportedly a deterrent to rodents. The box was shredded and surrounded by mouse droppings. The soap itself was small and lumpy, scarred all over with gnaw marks. They will eat soap.
