Watercolor Weirdness and a commentary on my supplies
This is sadly what my average "Workspace" looks like when I start doing traditional media. Specifically the watercolors. Once I start sitting down with any real seriousness my workspace turns into the artistic equivalent of Vietnam and there are rarely any survivors to cleanliness until I'm done with whatever project I've decided to tackle.
This time around I decided to take a picture of the setup BEFORE it turned into ground Zero and figured adding some fun commentary would bring a chuckle.
Will move to scraps later.
Edit: Yes I do mix Gouache and watercolors together. Yes I know it's not recommended. No I don't care.

The mention of using microns is sort of why that one is a failure. I inked her with Pentell fineliners that CLAIMED TO BE WATERPROOF but weren't and bled all over the picture. Alas she is not a bat though she looks like one admittedly. She's one of my critters called A Chimerian. She's got a long tail that's got a thagomizer at the end of it. I want to fix the pic first because right now it's a bit of a ink-covered disaster.
Someone is going to ask what a thagomizer is. Well, for the curious, here's the Wikipedia article.
Then I take it you're already familiar with the Strigiphilus garylarsoni.
Yeeaah no. Cute idea but a stressful loud con is not the place to do this stuff. I'll just be sticking to markers and fine liners for my supplies at MP like usual. This setup even using just the travel sets, takes way too long produce anything of substance unless the client wants to pay $200 minimum for a colored picture. This was posted to humorously showcase my levels of overkill when i paint in my free time. I could never do this during a con due to mess/ time/ and noise.
Good points.
Lord knows that when I paint out on any random location it’s hit and miss (and oil's are a lot more messy).
And I actually did try water colors at my first time in Florida (at that Marriott). That humidity kept my painting wet longer than I liked. Oils... it probably wouldn’t dry at all without an accelerant.

I've done watercolor at cons, but oils? Wouldn't risk it. The logistics are just too complicated for what should be quick work, and the chances of a mess are way too high with all the carpet and other fabric surfaces around. At least if you spill your watercolors, you can hopefully dilute and blot things up before they stain.
