Also if you don't mind I'd like to give you an advice, that helped me to practice at drawing and upped my skill: you should try to make any background even very simple, but drawing backgrounds with characters and trying to connect the character and bg is very good practice. Also you can try to make etudes from photos, videos or from real life (for example, the view from the window)
