Wearing a collar is WAAAY too furry for me.
But check out what I found at the thrift shop the other day! It's sooo pretty and it's really well made. The chain loops all the way around the back and the gromets are punched flat on the back. It has double layers of leather and the buckle and other metal parts have a really nice filigree pattern. It looks nice with a lot of my clothes, too!

Back in the 70's you'd find east coast and brit punks wearing collars. It was a punk thing.
In the 80's the goth scene took to it then it was viewed as a goth thing.
In the 2000's it became a general "freak" thing (new metal, juggalos, mall goths)
And yes the furries have taken to it as a common look so it is also a furry thing.
No reason to look at anything as fandom specific. Enjoy what you enjoy.

Naw...Collars fit into FAR too many things/genres...bdsm to start with, cyber punk, STEAM PUNK! *Smirk!*, sci-fi...yeah far too many to even mention...

The collar works with your love of Steampunk! AND, as it was said, Goths, Bondage, S&M, and Fashion have been using collars and chokers that look like collars a lot longer than furres.

I don't think collars are so much an indication of being a furry, so much as they are an indication that the wearer is into BDSM. Make of that what you will, but thats just the way my brain works.
On that note, I have to say I think that looks really sexy strapped around your elegantly slender neck. I'll stop there before I start scaring anyone, you least of all.
