This here was Andromeda, a loxocemus bicolor female I had for a little while.
Loxocemus bicolor are lovely but they are very difficult to find :(
She was a really beautiful snake but I got her from a large breeder as an adult - he'd gotten her as a baby but then hadn't been able to find a boy from her. She was very healthy but clearly hadn't been handled much and I never felt like she was happy being held.
Unfortunately I lost her in The Boarding Incident of 2006. Still, another species I'd really like to try again with "some day". But I want to find babies and raise them up myself.

Well, it's kinda a long, sad story...
What happened was when I went to grad school, I decided to pay someone to board half my snakes for a while so I could focus on school and make sure they got good care. I figured after a semester or two I would know if I could keep them or if I should sell them or what.
I got in contact with some folks who said they had a reptile rescue but they had a lot of extra space and would be happy to board them for basically the cost of food.
I guess I shoulda known better, too good to be true, but at the time I didn't realize how fly-by-night most "reptile rescues" are.
Anyway they were really far away, and drove down to meet me halfway.
Things seem go ok for a few months, on the phone they said they were having some trouble with a baby but I had a hard time understanding what was going on, and they kept saying the snakes were no problem.
... then suddenly I hear Andromeda is dead, and two other snakes died before I could drive 20 hrs to get the rest back. The people couldn't meet me this time.
It was really sad though, when I got there I finally understood they'd had a baby after I'd given the snakes to them (lady had been pregnant) with a congenital heart defect and they were struggling to keep up going back and forth to the hospital. I felt bad I just wish they'd let me know they couldn't keep up with the snakes :/ Overall I'd given them 6 to board and only came back with three... was a mess.
Now i know, only one who can take care of my snakes is me.

Sound like an awful story :C
I've had my share of terrible stories with my reptiles and other people, but it was the rehoming process and moving back home.
Its sad that usually the best owner is yourself, its like that with any of my animals reptile or not.
Its unfortunate you lost snakes over it, sorta makes the situation worse when you wanted to be more relaxed in the first place.
