A lot of my family have lost work because of this (because many of my family is in the fishing industry). But BP is doing all they can to fix their mistake.

Seeing the kind of efforts (or lack there or) made along the coast of AL, I really don't believe that they are.

Well really a lot of work is being put into fixing where the oil has affected the most which I believe is LA. They could be doing more for the *people* but right now they're busy trying to stop the stream of oil into the gulf and I agree with them that that is top priority.

Mmm.. they have enough money that where they lack in technology, they could be throwing manhours and lower tech resources at this left and right. There's no reason for there not to be a very solid coastal defense mounted all the way down the side of Florida. Keeping it off the beaches would do a lot to make clean up easier in the long run.

PFFFF. I don't love BP, not by a long shot. So many of my family have lost work for this.

I just feel they're having more blame pegged on them than they deserve and instead of blaming BP, we should find something productive to do.

on the otherside of the coin, i see this actually creating jobs, simply not just clean up, but studying the impact of the spill and restoration of affected areas

Well I don't consider it a good thing but yeah, for all the jobs it destroys it creates them too.

I think Broken Pipe has gotten enough shit from everything else already. Though it would be pretty interesting if a hurricane is formed out of the spilled oil then set on fire.

Here in Mobile, Alabama, we are freaking livid. I spend every summer on Dauphin Island, which is at the mouth of the Mobile Bay and along the Gulf. The whole island is basically shut down, and guys in HAZMAT suits comb the beach for tarballs, oil, and dead animals

BP really aren't the ones to be angry with, anyhow. They only owned the rig. My father worked on these things for twenty years. In reality BP has very few employees who don't come to work in a pressed suit every day. Many of them don't even know the mechanics of what their business does.

BP only hires out other people to do the work so the company who was working the rig (I forget) should be getting the hate, not BP.

I just wish it had happened to any company other than BP... EVERY other company was just as unprepared, BP just had the bad luck. And if people are really stupid and decide to boycott them, that means using oil that was bought from the stinking Arabs.

Again, I think I disagree. We aren't the people in charge or with the money to fix this, so outrage and protest are the tools at hand. Boycotts, speaking out about the problem, calling for them to be held accountable and putting pressure on authorities to hold them accountable is... fff, yeah, I don't know.

I started a local boycott that was 15,000 strong before I left the group, people started sending me hate mail because I don't like Obama or because I don't like the Crimson Tide or I have brown hair or whatever...It became a personal/political pissing match.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Grand and at Dauphin Island. As a Alabama native and a treehugger, it breaks my heart.

I'm no treehugger...but I see part of that Island as MINE. I am a part of it as it is part of me and all that emo stuff lol

Man, I went down to PCB to see it one last time before the oil got there and drove back through Pensacola and Orange Beach, AL. It was a little hard to see, but the damage in/around Terry Cove (you can see it as you drive over the Perdido Blvd Bridge), was awful/sad/enraging. I couldn't bring myself to go out to Ft Morgan, but my friends who lived there assured me it was as bad, if not worse.

I know oil spills would happen sooner or later in the gulf. But the way BP handled it saying that it is not as such a big deal that it really is, that is what pissing me off. This could happen to any company that is drilling, they all should never down play it like BP has. Any oil spill is a huge thing.
