The Sacrifice
This 1999 one is an image from an old short story I wrote by the same name. The dragon Halcyon looks on in sorrow and resignation as his best friend, Allearan, gives her life to stop a magical event that would otherwise expand continuously and destroy their homeland.

EPIC! THATS AWESOME! *reads description* ... aww...
Sidenote: Now this tree is dead. *ahem* Alas, poor tree, I knew him, Treetio: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his branch a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those twigs that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where be your leaves now?

Yeah, it was a sad little story that I kind of wished had had more point to it than just being sad. ^^; But it was years ago and I still like the drawing I did to go wtih it. :)
I always figured that Halcyon obviously had a really hard time of it and spent a while being understandably lonely and depressed, but after a while he managed to find a group of dragons to fly with who took him in and with some soul-searching he managed to move on and find happiness again.
