I used to be very into Iron Maiden in my last year of school, and as I hadn't really discovered many other bands that I actually liked at that stage, many of my earliest pieces of music were crude imitations of their style. This also takes a lot of inspiration from their Powerslave era of writing, containing a number of time changes and compound-time repeated riffs. I'm not sure how it grew to be nine minutes long, to be honest.

Commentary on the song's subject is slightly more difficult because it's one of those songs that started off as something completely different from what it was eventually about. It was going to be just "for a friend", but it became more complex than that.

In essence: A world that was created because of the hatred of another can never be perfect itself, because of the anger and rejection that its people feel towards others. This is about the creation and eventual failure of such a world.
