If someone was telling me that. I'll try to came with a sassy way to tell him to go f*** himself.
There is one crucial key to be way less bothered with people, it's to quickly analyse if a person opinion is worthless.
The problem wasn't you, you didn't screwed anything (well sorta), it could have be you or an other person the outcome would had been the same. This is an entitled person that think the world revolve aroudn him, and anybody that goes any way against him or his convictions is the biggest failure in the universe.
Just hold no weight to the words of people like that, your mistake was to gave him a sense of victory over insulting you and now you feel terrible about that. You might think he critisized you, but he just spewed random insult without even knowing you, baseless insult = void of any meaning.
(Maybe your story wasn't exactly like that, and this comic is exagerated, but still the idea is there )
