Golden rays bore down on the expanse of sand as far as the eyes could see, bordering the blue waves with seabirds calling out as they hung over head in the breeze. Emma felt a calling to the waves, the crashing of the waves a voice shouting her name, the water running over the sands a hand reaching for her's. She never told anyone of the intense draw to the deep blue, but she saw it in her mother's eyes, no doubt the look she too had when the smell of salt hung in the air. She didn't live too close or too far from the coast, just far enough that the inland valleys of "The Golden State" were as much of a hop and skip away as the sea. Not close enough to get lost in the ocean's pull, but not far enough to be free from that same pull.
She was a naturally gifted swimmer, and a bit of a romantic, with most dates being at places like the boardwalk or waterpark. Maybe she'll find out why she was so drawn to the waves, but she was equally happy on dry land that it wasn't the forefront of her day-to-day. If only she knew.
