Well, it's not, unless you don't want to be a pudgy cow. And if you ask me, Virmir seems the sort who quite likes being an officially licensed cartoon gray fox.
(Personally, I think the upsides outweigh the downs either way. Heat resistances, healing moves, generally being adorable... and considering how many people get PTSD flashbacks at the four words 'Whitney's Miltank used Rollout', I doubt Virtank's a slouch in battle either.)
