"sliding doors in space are slower than those of the slowest elevator" is one of my pet peeves. When you've got the tech to build giant faster-than-light spaceships you've also got the tech to build lightning-fast bulkheads that can detect when there's something in the way of them closing. There will be no "Oh my god, hull breach! Please hold on to something and hold your breath for 2 minutes while the bulkhead closes" in my comics.
So yes, those doors are (dangerously) fast, but her tail is safe.

I've there was a hull breach, vital parts of the ship were in the danger and someone accidentally happened to find himself between the bulkhead doors... he'd get sliced in half. Better to sacrifice one person than to risk the lives of the hundreds, maybe even thousands, of other people on board.
