Hey all,
Myoti had this guy sitting around for a while, and I initially held back on getting him because I wasn’t doing much with my previous adopt from him, Mr. Tugalong. However, upon talking with a few friends of mine, I decided to re-explore this character a bit. Here’s what I was able to come up with:
This character is called Damphear the Devourer. He was also an ancient dragon who knew Mr. Tugalong before he was transformed into his current state. Unlike Mr. Tugalong, he wasn’t forced to look like a plush, but instead assumed his current appearance upon learning of Mr. Tugalong’s fate.
In their world, magic was once abundant, but as technology progressed, belief in magic slowly faded, and magical beasts who derived their power from it began to fade from reality as well. When Damphear saw that Mr. Tugalong was able to use his appearance of a plush to siphon energy off of his ‘special friends,’ he saw a golden opportunity.
Damphear assumed the form of a child’s toy and began to appear wherever Mr. Tugalong was. However, while Mr. Tugalong introduced changes to people who he thought needed his assistance, Damphear had other ideas. Damphear thought that by magically regressing everyone within a given area, he could absorb all of the resulting magic.
Mr. Tugalong was furious that another magical entity would twist what he was doing into something so wanton and self-serving. Due to the fact that Damphear is more willing to absorb energy from unsuspecting victims that Mr. Tugalong, the latter usually cannot take the former in a head to head fight. Luckily, Mr. Tugalong was able to discover that after he absorbs energy, Damphear is particularly susceptible to sleep spells, like how a human can feel sleepy after eating a large meal.
As a result, whenever Damphear makes himself known to Mr. Tugalong, he usually tricks Damphear into absorbing energy like the glutton he is, and then tries to put him to sleep as quickly as possible. Mr. Tugalong isn’t a fan of this process, as Damphear usually only remains asleep for a few decades before waking up and pursuing Mr. Tugalong again.
The reason that Damphear chooses to follow Mr. Tugalong is because he believes the two of them would work well as pair, plus he’s secretly a bit lazy, so he would rather siphon off energy Mr. Tugalong has gathered than do it himself.
Whenever the two do meet, Damphear does make it a point to remind Mr. Tugalong that he wasn’t always the way he currently was, and that if they officially joined forces, he could reveal everything about Mr. Tugalong’s lost past.
Even though Mr. Tugalong has a mild interest in learning about his previous identity, he pretends not to care and usually just refers to Damphear as ‘Dampy’ to remind his nemesis that they both resemble children’s toys.
Despite looking like a child’s toy, there are aspects of Damphear’s form that give away his sinister nature. His mouth is lined with razor-sharp teeth, which are shown to be in a constant wicked grin on his face. His eyes are buttons of a yellow and red color, but those who look directly into them often say that the colors seem to be shifting, almost like a flickering flame. Each button is bound to his head with black thread in the shape of an ‘x’ that gives his eyes a sense of soullessness. Lastly, the bib around his neck, while seemingly a playful accessory, is actually a symbol of his insatiable hunger.
While his toy form is unnerving, he has casually mentioned to Mr. Tugalong that he used to look much more frightening as a demon dragon. He claims that Mr. Tugalong was quite terrifying himself, and if they join together, they can reclaim their old forms to terrorize humanity once more.
Mr. Tugalong continues to refuse and stop Damphear during every encounter they have, but Damphear’s words often haunt him, as he sometimes wonders if he truly is a monster deep down.

Well, what do you guys think? I’ve been meaning to write this out for a while, and I’m so glad that I was finally able to do so. Next up, I’ll be exploring Mr. Tugalong’s secret origin story, which describes how he transformed from a demonic dragon into the orange goofball that he currently is.
Here’s Mr. Tugalong’s page in case you guys have been utterly confused by who I’ve been referring to this whole time:
