Ray's problem is that he will never change. He is rotten to the core and will stay that way no matter what the circumstances. Tayra is just the exception, in spite of his sadistic and vile air, he would do anything to keep her safe (and she is the only human for whom he feels affection as a spiritual sister). But he's still an eternal ashole, And it is only with her that he will show that little bit of affection (but his mood changes regularly, he's still a dangerous predator for human beings and he likes that xD).
