Ok, not everyone is like this, but I'd conservatively say that 9/10 of my buddy list does this.

Instant Messengers are like Cable. I've got hundreds of people on my contact list and no one to talk to.

I'm happy to talk as long as people have something to say.

Yeah, but the ones I get pounce me and say hello, I say hello back... then they remain silent. I'm always left wondering whether I should say something, despite not actually having anything in particular to say to them.
