Tack så mycket ifrån Sverige!
For me I keep hearing on the radio "Sleeping In My Car", "Joyride", "The Look", and "It Must Have Been Love" when it is Roxette.
I remember my whole coutry (and the rest of the world) getting super depressed when the news came about the passing of Marie.
Fun fact: If you didn't know Per Gessle also has been having this band of his called Gyllende Tider, which has been super sucessful in making songs in the Swedish language.

Oh, gosh... thanks for the huge comment! ^_^
That's very much appreciated.
Yes... she fought bravely but lost in the end... way too young.
But you see... that's the good thing about art... it keeps the ones you love immortal.
And we'll always remember her in our hearts.
That's not just a quote... it's true.
And I've also put a lot of love into this piece.

I've done plenty of portrait drawings..... here's a small selection which I have uploaded over the years:

Whaaaatttt, this is so reaaal, nice job. I think the least photorealistic part that gave it away from me (from a distance, low-resolution thumbnail) was the lighting on the left person's left cheek (our perspective), it seems...vaguely off?
I mean, I say this, but again, I thought this was a real b/w photo for a second. Good gravy, you're a professional. Excellent work.

Thank you very much!
You are referring to Per? The dude's cheek? Hm... maybe... I cannot see it but it IS a drawing after all. And to increase the fact that this is not just a PHOTOSHOP effect (because you can find the photo reference pretty quickly on the internet) I have added the rather sketchy clothes and hand.

Thus begins the actual story of how I discovered the band Roxette! I was so deeply impressed by the wonderful aesthetic mastery in the linework of your drawing here of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, I decided to hunt down every single album they had every released, and devour every song in it's entirety. To be honest I had never heard of Roxette, and I am so very glad that you decided to render your god tier art skill on portraits for them. Since now, I am aware of their legacy of work!
First, 'Secrets That She Keeps' has to be one of my all time favorite songs. It has that incredible, energetic 1980's vibe. With the flowing vocals, the shimmering electro-synthesizer background rhythm, I could listen to this one track for hours at a time. Marie's voice has equal parts hopeful desire and impulsive libido, I just want to squeal and giggle every time I hear it. I LOVE this track, and would strongly recommend everyone who is interested in Roxette to listen to this one FIRST to get an idea of what they are about.
'Do You Get Excited' is another awesome, awesome track from Roxette. It has one of the best guitar solos that I've ever heard, and in fact I had to cut it out into a separate track and loop it like 10 times that I listen to ALL the time, it's THAT good. Again, Marie's voice is masterful, with sweeping, driving tones. Long and hypnotic, another 'best of' song that this band totally nailed.
'Church Of Your Heart' has another fantastic guitar solo that I isolated and listen to over and over. Just totally killer, highly recommended.
'Dressed For Success' has that punk rock, glamrock type of feel to it. I love the lyrics as she sounds cynical, yet dynamic and forceful, almost combative. Love the rhythm to this song, really athletic. Especially when she sings about how she isn't sure how to approach her mother or father about things.
'Fading Like A Flower Every Time You Leave' was very smooth, enjoyable, and just a hearty, bubbly song that feels full of life.
'Joy Of A Toy' Now this is another killer track! Very pumped up, I love that guitar in the background, very rugged and spunky. Strong and vigorous lyrics 'you can kiss this love goodbyeeeeee..!!!' Easily another of their 'best of' tracks.
'Small Talk' another Best Of track candidate for sure. 'small, small small talk..!!' The lyrics are just very sportive, engaging and quick to draw. 'it's the small, small small talk, that makes it all happen!!' YES! The rhythm has such zest, another favorite from Roxette.
'Turn To Me' yet another favorite. Marie has great vocal control on some of the 'turn to meeee' chants as she changes the pitch of her voice on a dime. Very bright sounding, popping and hot-blooded. Another great track from them.
So, hell yeah! Thanks ReptileCynrik for turning me onto this hidden gem of a music act. Yes, sadly Marie has passed away at the tender age of 61 in 2019, rest in peace. However, Per Gessle was a founding member of another band called Gyllene Tider which you can check out, the singing is all in Swedish I think, though. Per Gessle also has some of his own solo albums out, that you can explore.

Hi and thanks again for the cool comment!
Though I'm a bit confused... it's almost unbelievable that you discovered this band BECAUSE OF MY pencil drawing. ^^" The band is not active anymore (obviously) but it was very active in the 80s and 90s.
Anyway... it's not one of my favourite bands... but my friends and my brother loved them. So, that's why the drawing came to life.
But you know... if my drawing really got you into this band... then I'm even happier and grateful.

Cool thing!!!

Yes, as completely ridiculous as it sounds, that's how I discovered Roxette, was from your artwork. Hey, it's not the only time I discovered a band through artwork. The television show Family Guy once had a really cool song playing during the episode where Homer Simpson has a cameo appearance on the show, and he and Peter run a car wash and pretend they are all really studly and sexy, and in reality they just fat and gross. It was Def Leppard's song "Pour Some Sugar On Me". I thought, "HEY! This is a cool song... I have to google the lyrics and find out the band..." And then I was hooked, and listened to everything they had, from every album, and declared them the single greatest 1980's guitar band of that era.
Not one of your favorite bands..?? Roxette isn't? Are you familiar with all the songs I flagged as super awesome? At least, give 'Secrets that she keeps' another listen, that's hard to argue with how amazing it is. It almost reminds me of 1980's Heart, that band that was famous for the song Barracuda. Yeah, you know the one! That's another absolutely incredible band you should check out if you have time. Mostly their 1980's and early 1990's stuff is insanely good. If you like Roxette you would LOVE Heart.
All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You, All Eyes, Never, Nothin' At All, There's The Girl, These Dreams, Who Will You Run To, Will You Be There In The Morning are all instant classic that command attention.
Although if you would like to know, a Finnish rock band called H.I.M. is my number 1, favorite band of all time. Ville Valo, the singer, has the most absolutely perfect gothic croon to his voice, mixed with the most poetic lyrics I have ever heard from any band of any genre, of any time. Just, the best in the world. He's a god. He also has some solo work that came out recently, if you want to hear some of the most incredible singing ever recorded, try the tracks 'Run Away From The Sun' and 'Salute The Sanguine' from his solo work. Prepare to lose consciousness.

I typed in Roxette to see what would come up and found this wonderful image. These two were such a great duo. I remember them being big in the very early nineties, when Joyride was a hit and they played the music video often on TV. As I recall one of my babysitter's daughters were real into them. I rediscovered them several years ago when I found a tape of Look Sharp! in the thrift store. It's a shame Marie's gone, because Per recently did a psuedo-retro album called Pop Up Dynamo, and he's still got it, but (no reflection on the album's singers) but Marie's absence was keenly felt.
Oh, that's a sweet story. First of all, thanks a lot for the kind words - this is highly appreciated.
Also, I absolutely agree to your comment and I hope that my drawing could also play a part in making this duo immortal. ^^
Well, more than they already are!!
XD
Yeah, it will never sound the same... without Marie. May she rest in peace.
