Good news!
2020 was a good year for orange-bellied parrots, a critically endangered bird native to southern Australia and one of the few parrot species that migrates. This year 40 birds returned to their breeding site in Tasmania. That’s the best in a decade and nearly double last year’s number, thanks to the successful release of several birds from a captive breeding program. Though they are still highly at risk, this is certainly a spark of hope for the little birds.
