Aether Product Shots 03 - Final
PRODUCT SHOT 2 (of 4)
AETHER IS HERE!
...and if you hurry, you may be in time to get one before Anthrocon! (Just a thought).
The latest copy that I ordered has come through magnificently, and I couldn't be more proud of my colleagues. And by that, I mean everyone. This is not "my" book by any stretch of the imagination. I'm just the guy that put it together. This tome showcases hundreds of works from well over one hundred artists, and every page is brilliant. All in all, I can't believe it's finally here!
A long, painful haul to be sure, Aether symbolizes an important milestone for the fandom. One that places an overwhelming emphasis on the overall mood and flavor of the genre.

...look into Indesign. Maybe on the next edition, you should add more gutter to allow the viewer/reader more of the picture to be viewed on the page. Indesign does this for you or you can design a different layout per page. ...when you completed this I had not taken a course in graphic design yet but had had working in a print shop years ago in the last stone age when everything was done by hand and we used plates.
Oh yes, I am very old-hat at InDesign. Though when I built this book, InDesign was not established yet and Quark Xpress was the enormous industry standard. This book was laid out in Quark, and I had very little control over the printing. The bleed and gutter as shown in these examples were created this way for artistic purposes.
I've been working in Graphic Design as an Art Director and Senior Designer for several decades now, and after a while you get bored with the same standards over and over. :3

I am self-taught in Xerox Ventura, but yeah Quark I am pretty sure the printer disregarded what you made and decided to build a design different than what was agreed upon. Xerox was designed for the printer but back then Quark was still new!
I think the largest problem though was everybody had their own code and nothing was interconnected except a few programs and the computer system no one in any industry in Michigan ever used: "Apple". Then M codes came out and could use that to communicate to Autocad or Cimmeron and now everything uses M codes. Before in Michigan, you had to hire the same drunk you fired last week because no one knew that machine but him. Since the invention of M codes originally for Machine tool then for everything else, you don't have to. Congratulations on your attainment I did some important things but did not have a BA in anything just amazing sales ability, I liked working alone then my own salesmen were not working to undermine me just the competition. I had innate art ability but was poor so no college I got a job instead. ironic really I was on the west coast and could not go to college!
