This iteration of Selene is the biggest creature I've ever drawn and it's all your fault. 83 I have only myself to blame for the fucked up city and perspective, though. It's not something I tend to draw so I cheated to get it done before 2021.

I embrace the guilt without shame.

Cities are a ton of work to draw, especially if the lit windows are clearly visible; I don't think anyone is going to hold it against you that you decided not to spend the next several days drawing a city.

I got most of the through this and said in my best Monarch voice, "This needs to be darker. WAY darker." Her eyes were originally very dark blue (which they are in other drawings) but that didn't look ominious enough. I ended up making them pure black with reflections. Which is more accurate to nature than her blue eyes, anyway.

So, for Christmas, can I just ask Selene if I can watch her swallow ships and airplanes whole? Lol

Polar bears are fairly dangerous a extremely hostile, so they wouldn't work either

Quite a lot of the bears in the Stregaverse can talk and some are reasonably friendly, especially if Selene tells them to be on their best behavior.

It's never good news when a kaiju shows up at your city even if they're intending to be friendly. And knowing Selene, I wouldn't necessarily even bet on that.

The idea of a kaiju leopard seal, all on its own, is pretty terrifying and this shows why!

That she has a gift bag may mean she isn't there to do harm, but it's also likely she is only there to present gifts to SOME of the population. If she's ruled that part of all of the city is Very Naughty it may end up crushed under her bulk or scooped up and swallowed. Both of which are equally fatal, just different ways of dying. Best case is she simply leaves the gifts (all tagged with the recipient's name) on the shore and swims off, hopefully not getting TOO irritated with the overenthusiastic military shelling her. A warship or two may disappear down her gullet even if she is there with peaceful intentions. Irritating Selene is not a good idea at this point.

nah... to take her out you have to feed her a couple of large nukes and detonate them inside :P

They worry that even that won't work. A year or two back someone loaded a garbage barge full of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil and blew it up as she swallowed it. All it did was provoke a belch that blew windows out of nearby ships. She was as vulnerable as any normal seal when she was the SIZE of a normal seal, but they are not sure the can kill her now. Negotiation is preferable to attacking her, as the latter might cause her to start eating your country.

All I can say is that I'd really REALLY rather not be on her bad side. With Selene's case it isn't a matter of 'like' it's a matter of 'how do I get out of this alive?'

Fortunately she is extremely valuable as a literal garbage disposal since she can digest just about anything. And her growth rate has slowed greatly since however her metabolism works, it seems to use much of her intake just to keep her colossal body going. Making treaties we her is preferrable to finding out what will happen if you attack her. It probably best that she never figured out who was behind the garbage barge full of ANFO or the world would likely be missing some cities.

I have to admit the garbage barge incident I hope you draw one day. For such a big, scary animal it'd be comical as hell.

Gargantuan critters like Selene have only a hazy connection to normal physics. By all right she's so huge she should collapse under her own weight even when supported by water, much less when lifting her head like this. The trope that giants in comic books are somehow also super-tough even though their power is just to grow isn't that unreasonable, the material strengths needed to keep a colossal creature going would reasonably also make it tough.

Selene is very big. She is VERY tough. She is scary. She could have died to something as simple as a harpoon or orca attack when she was young, but no one knew what was happening down in the Antarctic. When she got to the point where she could swallow a whaling ship whole it was already too late to easily stop her. The Japanese sent an attack submarine to torpedo her. She used the sub as a dildo, sucked it into her asshole and digested it crew and all. She is not a normal creature and the last series attempt to hurt her was the ANFO barge. Until some country is SURE they can kill her, negotiation is the way to go.

Oh so that's just gives me even more ideas!

That's still a fun experimentation for my Mad Joe Character lmao.
Even if she grew up to the size where she can swallow entire planets and fart solar systems,
Mad Joe would throw more at her. what about a super nova? or a black hole?

She's not a planet eater and may never get that big. She is still by far the largest critter I've ever drawn and in-story she's the scariest thing on the planet at the moment. Other settings have far more powerful critters but she is a big fish in a small pond.

That strip probably contributed to the no-upper-limit growth fetish some people have. Selene was created as part of an art for story trade with one of those people. This version is the less menacing one because the one in the never published story grew a lot faster. 83
