Some facts about the species; Orel’s species, nicknames screetchers, are the top predators of their home world. They evolved from swimming creatures with wing like structures, kinda like earth’s flying fish, and eventually they leapt higher and higher out of the water until they finally could fly and breathe on land. Once they could they evolved powerful beaks, designed to rip open their prey but also to dig into rocks where they made their nests. They still have a primitive set of gills and can use those to breathe underwater, which allows them to hunt for the other swimming creatures there. They live in small family groups, with a dominant male and his mate, and some of their older young who haven’t matured or left the nest. The young males leave the nests when they’re around 30 years old, and have just got their adult plumage, while the young females leave when they’re closer to 60, being big and strong enough to claim a territory. They aren’t fully grown before they are closer to 80, but both genders get their adult feathers around 30 years old. When they are young their feathers are white around the face, black on their backs, legs and tails and cream or light blue on their bellies. Their adult plumage are a mix of light and dark blue on their backs while the face turn emerald green, their underbellies turn purple on the males and yellow on the females. They learn to fly when they are 10 years old but still need their parents up until they leave the nest. As adults they have few predators, only bigger ones of their own kind or the slime creatures that live in caves around the land. Juveniles can be brought down by several creatures though, most dangerous are the forest ape men, whom often attack young screetchers to protect their land. Screetchers are names such because of a trait they have from their water living ancestors, a powerful sonar. They use this, along with their huge eyes to navigate at night, but they can also use the sonar as a powerful weapon, able to make a sound so powerful it can cut rocks. Being mostly nocturnal the sonar is a great way for them to find their way around, but their eyes are also well adapted for this, with a pupil that can expand to cover 90% of the eye, giving them excellent vision at night. They are very smart beasts and love to learn new things, specially to take things apart and put them back together again. They, like the slime creatures, can shape shift, but not to things very much smaller than their anthro forms. They can swallow pretty big prey, but find too big prey uncomfortable and usually only go for smaller targets if they wish whole prey, though their beaks have jagged, tooth like structures on their insides, making them fully able to rip, tear or actually chew their prey. Like many owls on earth, the screetchers can turn their head in an almost complete circle, allowing them to sit still while watch a large area around them.
Short history; Orel grew up with only his mother and two younger sisters, as his father had disappeared and his other siblings had been killed. One day when he was out practise flying he accidentally bumped into some large rocks over his nest home, causing a huge rock fall. Orel’s left wing and leg along with his tail got trapped, while his mother and siblings got buried by the rocks. Orel was unable to move the rocks on his own and was stuck for several days before being found by a slime creature named Duke, and one of the ape men, Iau. Though both the smaller creatures was nervous and reluctant at first, Orel’s pained plea for help made them help him out, Duke by removing the rocks and Iau by hunting, bringing back a large rodent like beast. Orel explained to them that he was now an orphan and had nowhere to live. Duke told him that he could live close to his own area, in one of the trees there. When they got captured by the other aliens Orel quickly discovered he had a love for mechanics, driving their captors mad by taking things apart to see how they worked then put them back together. After a few days, and with the help of Iau, he managed to get to the main computer of the ship, and after messing with it for a while, accidentally causing it to crash on earth. After hearing Iau’s tales about the people of this new world Orel set out to make a hologram watch for Iau so he too would look human, by using the remains of the ship they crashed in. Orel also made a watch like device for himself, which he could shrink and unshrink things or people with. Learning from the humans that Duke captured and brought home he soon managed to fix a translator for them all, putting it into the skin of his and Iau’s ears, leaving Duke to learn on his own. Like his two friends, Orel evolved a love for earthly food, in his case, milk. He is not as crazed about milk as his two friends are about their favourite, but he’ll do a lot to get some milk. Unlike Duke and Iau, whom both find swallowing large prey enjoyable, Orel prefers smaller prey, thus the reason behind his wrist watch. Orel have the classic youngling feathers of his kind, white face, black back, legs and tail and cream underbelly. He is a fast flyer, and can out fly many human airplanes.
