Name; Iau
Species; alien ape man
Gender; male
Age; 339 human years, for his kind he’s around 19.
Size; 7,7 feet tall, tail is 6 feet long
Some facts about the species; Iau’s kind evolved from lizard like creatures that lived in the trees, and they still have some of their ancestor’s abilities, like the ability to swallow something large whole, but only up to twice their own size, anything bigger and they’ll get hurt. They live in huge social groups, up to 300 members in one clan, and build complex houses and structures between their home trees. The females and young are perfectly camouflaged in the trees, with grass green fur from their heads to the middle of their bellies, and blue fur down the rest. The males are alike but got a bright red or dark orange fur from their heads to the shoulders and on older males this red fur reaches down to the blue fur on their backs. As a hunting and gathering species they use teamwork to get everything they need, with the large males go hunting and the females gather the fish like creatures that live in forest ponds and streams, and collect berries, fruit and insects. Since they are omnivores they like to eat all kinds of things but they are mainly meat-eaters. Both males and females have a set of 15 inches long canines in the middle of their top jaw, which are hidden when they talk or close their mouths in special cheek pockets. To be able to use their teeth to bite they can open their mouth over 90 degrees, giving them a wide but strong bite. Their lower jaws are hinged like that of a snake, enabling them to bite down over most of their prey’s necks. The females live in the same group all their lives, while the males swap groups when they find a mate in another group. The clans come together once a year in an annual mating event, where males and females from different clans can find a mate. The young stay with the female till they are around three years old, then the fathers take the young males out for hunting lessons and the females teach their daughters how to forage and catch fish. There are rarely any fights within the clans since everyone knows their place in the pecking order, and the only fighting occur when new males try to find their place. The clans will arrange for special fight tests, allowing the males to show their strength without bloodshed. This normally takes just a few days to help the new males find their places. The hunters rise in rank depending on their strength and ability to find and take down prey, the better the hunter the higher the rank they’ll get. They are all expert trackers and can follow the slightest scent or trace of their prey. Being one of the smallest hunters on their planet they always go in groups when hunting, though sometimes scouts are sent out to look for new hunting areas. If they are young and inexperienced or they are unfocused they often never return from scouting missions. Although they are not that much bigger than humans they got over twice the amount of bones in their spines and necks. This gives them extreme flexibility, allowing them to bend and twist in ways humans can only dream of. They also have double joints in their arms, shoulders and legs, making them able to twist and turn them almost any way, which helps them climb up and down the trees and jump thought the branches swiftly. Their tails are prehensile and very strong, allowing them to hang from them while holding a prey weighing twice their own weight.
Short history; Iau was born at the bottom of the social order, and stayed with his mother for an abnormal five years before the hunters took him along, his father having been killed a few months before his birth. He quickly surprised the others by how fast he learned and how strong and agile he was, and after only a few years he became one of the best young hunters the clan had ever had, and als the youngest in bringing down a juvenile screetcher, one of the huge native bird beasts. When the red fur on his head started to form he was allowed to start scouting trips on his own, and was often gone for days on end before coming home. One time he came home to find the clan in turmoil, as a huge adult male screetcher had attacked, killing close to half the clan, Iau’s mother among them. The clan moved after this attack, settling closer to the mountains where the screetchers rarely went. On a scout mission Iau found one of the slime beasts trapped in one of the deep plants in the forest. Although he knew he should leave the dangerous predator alone and leave he was compelled to speak to it when it started talking to him, and after getting a promise that he wouldn’t be attacked he helped the bigger beast out of the plant. He expected the other not to hold true to his word, since their kind often thought more with their bellies than their heads, the huge beast, who called himself Duke, invited him instead on a hunt, which he gladly said yes to. They spent a few weeks together, getting to know each other as friends. Duke scared Iau’s clan a few times by coming right into it, but they eventually accepted the other predator as a friend of Iau. One they when Iau and Duke was up in the mountains looking for some food they came across a young screetcher, whom had a wing, leg and tail stuck under a lot of rocks. After some hesitations and worries while talking to the large flyer they started to dig him out, Iau eventually going to catch something for the large flyer to eat, since he had been stuck in the rocks for quite some time. The screetcher, Orel, turned out to be friendly and rather lonely, since his family had all been buried by the rocks, so he stayed with them, finding himself a roost not far from Duke’s cave. When they was taken by the alien ship, Iau found out how to open some locked doors, and with that he was able to help Orel destroy the computer, making the ship crash. When they woke up later on earth, Iau was the first to go around to find out more about their new world. It didn’t take him too long to realise that they’d need new forms and language to survive on this new place. Being that his kind wasn’t shape shifters he could only hide and wait, hoping that Orel might be able to create some sort of machine to help him take a human guise. He also discovered that he have a huge lust for strawberries and will do just about anything to get one.
