I was gonna cut this into pieces but... bweh, screw it. XD Just have a flood of random.

Some drawings of Zutara to accompany my Gig sketches. I wanted to try exploring Zuzu's personality a bit closer... he's the one character out of the three main cast members that I feel has evolved the most since I created them. I would have originally described Zutara in pretty much the same way I'd have described Edward from Cowboy Bebop. That persona has since fallen completely off the drawing board. XP

I wanted to start by saying that Zutara is all about Deception... but the more I think about him and Astray, the more I realize that the whole team is pretty much about Deception. Of the three main cast, no one is really what they appear to be. So really, I'd say Zutara is simply the most obvious of the three, simply because that's the typical nature of a Mawile.

Zutara is everybody's friend... on the outside. On the inside, it's hard to tell. As "panel four" would suggest, if Zuzu doesn't like you, you'll never know it until it's too late. Still, he is, in general, a really nice guy. It's something he tries really hard to be... because he used to be anything but...

As a fighter, Zutara is (mostly) pure defense. His Steel body is pretty difficult to damage, and that giant horn makes connecting a blow to his body all the more difficult as well. Keeping your distance is usually the best strategy against him, but so long as he can move around you still won't have much luck damaging him. He lacks much in physical strength, but he knows how to throw his weight around. And like a good master of deception, he has a few tricks up his sleeve...


The last two panels are sorta random additions. One to indicate a theory of mine that the giant horn of a Mawile can be shed... either naturally or as a result of battle damage. They grow back though.

The second of the two relating to Vigilance's future storyline. At the end of the normal Astray Arc, Zutara leaves the team and returns to the city he was raised in. Finding his old affiliation, Team Rocket, disbanded and a new organization, Team Galactic, rising in it's stead, Zutara gathers trustworthy old acquaintances and transforms Team Rocket into the "Remnants Faction," a group dedicated to opposing the likes of Galactic and the Rocket of old. (Oh, and hopefully you'll also note that he fixed his hair up a bit in that image. XD He lets it go wild during the Astray years.)
