Part of being a ranger is to boost people's morale. Consider they are the lowest end of the food chain, they get eaten constantly and the rangers can't save everyone. So offering some emotional support to survivors is often necessary. Young Denek here would just tell them to stop crying like babies, which is not productive if you want to avoid wide spread panic.
