And our next piece brings us to a pair I enjoy, but don't get as often. Balto and his wayward daughter, Aleu. For those unaware, these two were featured in the movie, Balto II: Wolf Quest, which was one of those direct to video sort of sequels that were all the rage in the 90s and early 00s, because they were seen as a cheap way to make some quick cash.
Most are garbage, and this one is only good for how it chooses to make its sequel. References to the original are light, as that's its own story, but so is this, showing off some rather interesting things in spirituality amongst feral creatures. The shift in focus, from Balto to his daughter is interesting, especially in that it shows that his concern is a good thing, but at the end, he does let her find her own destiny.
Heck, it even snuck in its environmental message, as the wolves in the movie, and the pack Aleu eventually joins, are having trouble because food is getting scarce, and humans are obviously the reason, but it's never directly called out. Kind of cute actually. Also, the Joker(Mark Hamill) as a bad-ish guy(He's actually presented as complicated, another thing that makes it a good film) is always a treat.
Regardless of the film, here we see Aleu having herself a simple sandwich. It seems Balto somehow got himself mixed up in it, and finds the experience just a bit undignified. Still, I'm sure he added some flavor to the meal at least.
