We are not *trusting*! We like to *be together*. Do you want to *be together* with us? Always the other *sad* *animals* go away. But first, we have lots of fun! Too many fun is not enough! Do you agree? I think you *smell* like you do. This is the story about *trusting*. It is sad, and makes many Orz *dissolve*, or burst into several. Why is it that you are *trusting*? What a funny question. I am tired.
...Orz are my favorite race ever, they're just too hilarious. ^_^

My personal theory is that the Orz didn't quite comprehend our dimension or "many bubbles" nature yet, and in trying to forcibly "pull" the Androsynth to its "below" level it accidentally shredded their organic bodies, more or less. Currently, it's looking into a way to do this without so much of a mess. Perhaps loneliness, since it's used to being the only being of its kind. It could even be trying to make the "many bubbles" Human race into a single being like itself. The death of the Androsynth was an embarrassing mistake, but the Orz don't see it as more than accidentally breaking a new toy, possibly.
Before the Androsynth started experimenting with something similar to Quasi-Space travel, Orz could only perceive others that could go between dimensions, such as the Arilou and the Taalo.
As for the personality/motives, the Orz strikes me as being somewhat simple in mind. Since it's not "many bubbles", combat is only a game to it. Most likely, it doesn't understand death as it applies to more mortal races. The restrictions of 3-D space compared to the other dimensions where it normally resides make combat more interesting/suspenseful, perhaps.
Supporting items:
- The away team that first finds the Androsynth ruins has a member that starts suffering inexplicable wounds before the eyes of the other crew members.
- The Orz makes comments along the lines of "Perhaps after the biggest party, you will understanding the Orz and I can showing you other levels" and "You will enjoy the change, but maybe not yet".
- "Here is good news! Six or nine pieces ago, myself the Orz did not even smell your level. Can you believe? It is so silly. It is such a happy town. Then the Androsynth made some slippery places and then Orz can smell it! It smells so good, Orz are surprised! I myself pushed the fingers into the new town, and there are so many campers! ..."
- "I smell you so much! Campers are pleasant. You are coming again to the Playground. We can have extra fun for future parties in Quick Time."
There's a few others, but they don't come to mind just yet. ^_^;;

True, though the Arilou seem to be specifically warning you against associating with them, and that its generally a bad idea to alert them (and possibly other things?) to your presence- and the Orz make similar statements about the Arilou sabotaging their ability to *smell* things in the past (which made them unhappy)
Also, about the "Many Bubbles" things, someone suggested its how they see the makeup of our universe- we're made out of matter- which is made out of molecules- which is made out of atoms, which are functionally spherical. If they can perceive this (which might be reasonable) we *would* look like we're made out of many bubbles to them.
to them, combat isn't that serious because they don't physically exist in our universe- what we see is only their *fingers*, which is reasonable to assume is some sort of projection of part of themselves into our dimension- that form "Dying" is inconvenient to them- but no more than a remote control car being destroyed is to us- No personal harm is caused.

Well, the Orz is still dangerous. They still want to "pull" you into another dimension, a process which may or may not be fatal, but will definitely cause a massive change. The Arilou don't want to see their "charges" changed like that.
And I never thought about "many bubbles" referring to atoms... I'm not so sure, though. It doesn't make much sense when you take into account the Orz explanation of fingers vs bubbles. ("My fingers reach through into Heavy Space and you see Orz bubbles, but it is really fingers.") Then again, the Orz could be assuming that we can see on the atomic level as well...
And that's what I meant about the combat. I just phrased it poorly. ^_^;;

That's probably a good point, since it says "Orz are not light reflections" in the same line.
I'd always just thought of it as "I extend into your dimension, and you see individual, unconnected beings, but they are all me." Though, that doesn't explain the line of "I am told, other Orz cousins, that you are connected for camping"...
...I think I'm geeked out, though. ^_^;;

did a bit of research, and the Word of God (that, is, the original game designers) have explicitly stated that the Orz are "Them"- that is the potentially dangerous extra dimensional beings you're repeatedly warned about- each individual Orz is just an extension of a single being, pressing into normal space from *Outside*.
