Doodling one resulted in a silly infosheet.
Aviaos Shadowcrawlers are named after the Avarian Troll explorer who first discovered them. They tend to be most active at night and are endlessly curious social critters.
The markings on each of them are used as signaling and communication flags, wiggling, waving and flipping them, in conjuction with their nimble postures and whistling birdlike calls.
Since nocturnal activity is favored to have easier visibility of their biolights, they also like to live in more open areas.
They prefer habitats over sedimentary bedrocks, which they try and find caves, cracks, cliffs or other places to hide and rest in. This usually has them in arid enviroments, with lower amounts of vegetation (this may account for their visibility factor).
There are instances long cavern systems with crawlers inhabiting it, as long as they have access to enough water.
It's not known or documented of them eating much more then rock, sand, and dirt. But consumption of dirt may include small plants and creatures by default of it's composition.
They enjoy water and swimming, and are very active despite the unusual diet.
Each crawler has it's unique pattern, horn shape and color, though the coloration only appears on the pattern, and a dark hide/skin being the species indicator.
The females are slimmer and have glowing lips, males lack this but often are found with a secondary horn set or extra signal fins.
They can climb very well, and use this ability to posture and call in unusual places, a sort of game between individuals.
Digging they do enthusiastically, despite being not very efficient at it, hence the interest they have in loose soils and sands.
Their whistling clicks, hoots and chirps often have an echoing quality to them, which can be amplified by any natural formations nearby, and they do seem to take delight in this.
Crawlers can see very well in the gloom, and speed away the moment they feel threatened. They taste so awful they have no known predators, and since they inhabit most areas other more aggressive species do not live in, they tend to go about untroubled.
About 4-5 feet tall, they look smaller because of their posture, but it is offset by the lengthy signal fins and tail.
Aviaos Shadowcrawlers belong to silly old me. We built some in Secondlife, they're cute!
