Saphy was so super nice to doodle up this sketch of Yosh as he goes through his ‘Rule 63’ phase of his life.
There is much to say about how confusing life can be once you are more forcefully taught that boys do one thing and girls do another. This, largely, is not the case up until turning 3 years old. However, once it happens, anxiety and depression are not too far behind. Especially if you are denied the ability to express yourself as you feel most comfortable in doing so.

Social norms are far from being social, or normal, as they are edicts declared by those who feel they have the right to enforce their ideals upon each generation. So many are outdated, proven to be invalid, and racist and/or sexist. Sadly they are clung to by enough people that they live on as grandparents were given the beliefs by their parents. These grandparents share their beliefs with their children before these children pass them onto their own offspring. This ensures there is always someone of elder age / political influence in prominent / dominant position to keep bigotry, hatred, and disdain towards those who are ‘different’ from ever being seen as friends. It is seen as ‘acceptable’ to put down, bully, and place unfair restrictions upon anyone not within the proverbial ‘box’. So many leaders think they are ‘outside of the box’ thinkers. However they, largely, could not be more stuck inside a box that refuses to open its lid to keep those who truly can bring government, business, and social norms to a whole new level of greatness.

Doodle Noodle, sapphire, Wayward Pony, myself, and many others have continually strived for being who you are and feel best in being. We want you to not feel shame, nor fear of judgment, just because you are not the way a misguided society attempts to force you into being.
So many disliked aspects of who we are cannot be changed. We are not meant to be all the same. Diversity is the key to growth and development while lack of sensitivity to those not like yourself only ensures the furtherment of the dire ‘status quo’.
Always remember that, if what you do brings no mental and/or physical damage to yourself, or others, just be you and tell those who cling to their ‘inside the box’ thinking to get out of their ‘comfort zones’ and give seeing outside their beliefs a try. You just never know what you may find enjoyable, helpful, etc. once you allow your mind to genuinely get to know all those who, by no choice of their own, are different. You need not agree with what they say, or do. However you can at least respect that they are doing, as you are, their best to live their ‘best life’.

Aww hehe, sounds like our little duckling has the right attitude! It's always fun to explore and experiment - what would the world be like if we never found how cute Yosh looked in a dress, or all dolled up in pink? Ehehe. It's got the soft cutesy sweet vibe you're all about! Good blue-lined doodle of Yosh with his arms behind his back all modest in a cute lil dress and outfit!
*Smoochies* It also gives Yosh the go-ahead to be all lovy-dovy with his favorite dino-butt buddy without anyone being the wiser. *Flutters his eyes*
Perhaps, if Nishi and Yosh can't score dates for the prom, Winry could help Yosh be all pretty with makeup and pad up a bra so the two can make an appearance? It would be a great way to get out and socialize given Nishi's outgoing personality and Yosh's desire to not be seen as a lesser creature as a result of how different he is?

It has truly taken me far too long to be able to share such feelings. Though, as you told me back in 2009, it is better to figure it out at some point than to never figure it out at all.
It is also nice, when I get the chance, to talk to Nutalie about such things. She's shared some things I want to try at some point. ;*Curstsies, winks, giggles, and waddles away*

Well, for me, I have always been more drawn to things associated more with girls than boys. I'm a cuddler, like hugs, would love to wear a skirt, and was a big MLP fan at Age 4. I also really loved 'The Care Bears' growing up and, well, boys were not largely known for being Care Bear fans.
There is also how, as a result of my limitations, I was not very desired in traditional male activities. I was eternally last picked for gym sports, told I could not join certain sports, never had enough sight to drive a car, and wanted to have a family over a career.
So, for me, I use Yosh to help do all those things that, often, are frowned upon by society for males to do. It is not that I want to be a girl as much as, personally, I identify and get along with females more than males.
As for those who opt to get surgery to change their gender, I feel it is a way to fully embrace how you do not fit in with those who are your gender. Society has done enough dmage to make you uncomfortable in the body you are in and, to help feel better and build self-esteem, you change into that which allows you to accept yourself for who you are over eternally being put down by people for matters beyond your control.
Something else, which I just thought of, is how the soul is what truly defines who and what you are. The soul is what is judged upon death and the soul is you and your actions. The body is merely a shell for the soul until it is ready to be returned to the one who shpherds them. Bodily changes are just like updating a computer, car, etc. They give you the body that allows you to feel peace within your soul over sorrow for not meeting unfriendly social stereotypes.

Interestingly, the main boy characters in my work tend to bond better with girls. But they do not feel effeminate. Instead, they feel like a complete person.
Ironically, their closest friends are mainly boys who share this common ground.
At first, Dragonshy (or “Fireshy”) is the most troubled of the stallions. He is to have a character arc similar to Fluttershy’s. Behind his kind and sometimes timid demeanor is a dangerous alpha male looking to burst out. Feeling like a pushover, feeling his kindness is rejected or exploited — these are feelings he has tended to hide from. In learning to put his hoof down, he almost loses his desire for anyone to care about him. To save him from himself, Nightlight tries a new spell: a dreamweaver spell.
Dragonshy dreams he is on the top of the heap in the city of Equopolis — but he is surrounded by enemies. He fears for his life, always paranoid that he will get overtaken. Being the top dog has not gained him security. He would rather be invisible now. It’s implied that he’s considering suicide. Once Nightlight has broken him, she shows him that the greatest sense of power comes from friendship.
In addition, Dragonshy worries that the creator is the most dangerous and jealous friend of all. Nightlight has a hard time answering that question. But she assures him that the creator can’t possibly have more anger or hate than any of us. As long as we’re growing in kindness and trying to learn from him, we are surely his faithful children.
Dragonshy learns that there is a place to be an alpha male. When he needs to, he might be able to dominate his enemies. He might need to dominate people who are clearly doing foolish things. With everyone else, he needs to seek an equal and mutual relationship.

Very good plot points. I will assume that Dragonshy / Fireshy doesn't get this sort of aid from Night Light until a bit later in the story? The reason I think this is that, initially, we are following her story of learning to embrace friendship while being better able to approach and interact with others.
Dragonshy / Fireshy reminds me a lot of a merger of Spike and Fluttershy. Spike is a great assistant and is super helpful when his aid can better those he cares about. However Spike does not seek leadership as much as acceptance and appreciation. Fluttershy already has the appreciation of her friends, but is a ticking time bomb when it comes to her emotions.
Overall, nice job. :)

It is a story for a little down the road. For my first "season", I plan 26 stories. Perhaps "Dragonshy Puts His Hoof Down" should be the 18th story, following "Trouble at the Friendship Ball".
I think Story #18 will mark the great turning point for Nightlight -- the point where she truly starts to be a capable leader.
I'm starting to think, maybe Nightlight often finds she communicates better through dreams. In the world of dreams, people may often feel more open minded, their thoughts more free to wander.

Dreams do tend to allow yourself to face, or run, from real life troubles. Especially in a dream's nature to take a number of positives and negatives that are rolling around in your head and turn them into a bizarre situation where you and your dream self have to come to some degree of understanding.
Perhaps, as the series starts, you can have dreams featuring a reoccurring character who makes Night Light very uncomfortable. Night Light never sees their face until the time comes where, thanks to her efforts in Friendsville, she is able to see her nocturnal antagonist and face them down without feeling fear, intimidation, etc. The entity being nothing more than a mmanifestation of all her worries, fears, etc. as one monstrous sight that her dream self runs from as her subconscious tries to wonder why she is always being hunted by this entity in her dreams. The dreams could happen during times she is on the verge of going Macro?

Come to think of it, I already have a character who’s been haunting some people’s dreams: Stellanova. Skysparkle’s estranged sister has been presumed to be dead — but some people have reported dreams of being terrorized or tempted by her.
Now that you’ve inspired me, I think I will have Stellanova haunting Nightlight now and then — and her best friends — in the stories leading up to Nova’s return. Nova would probably be in disguise for this.
As it is, I was already planning Nightlight to help reform Nova through a nightmare.
