If the dream conveyed that much to you, then yes, a short story might work very well.

For me, the greatest frustration of dreams is that their images and feelings can be so intensely personal, and so chaotically intertwined like tangled roots in the soil of our secret memories, hidden fears and unvoiced longings, that they often seem both opaque and arbitrary to anyone else; and yet, because of that personal significance, dreams can be so important to us that we often *need* to share them with other people.

was the message blind allegance? if not, that was my thought.. It's very nice... but it's not depressing to me.
