'Motte' the hamster [puppet]
This was originally supposed to be a prototype for a toy to be sold in a shop of an online kindergarten that was started during the first lockdown times. The head was supposed to be baby safe vinyl or rubber and the body could be used both as a hand puppet and as a stuffed toy (by putting in a little stuffed pillow). After researching materials and brainstorming headshapes for half a year, making a first mold etc etc the woman decided to ghost me and then completly stop her online kindergarten and move countries too if i recall, so yea that was really not cool of her.
Since i already made the mold i wanted to at least complete one puppet so i cast the head out of resin and hand painted it, so this is obviously way more detailed than a reproducable product and also not baby safe anymore. I made this puppet for a rodent-friend (she's a fellow rodent rescuer, she is not a rodent herself) and it's based on her amazing hamster "Motte" who sadly died this month.

Normally i charge full price before doing a commission but because this was a very different project i didn't quite know how much material costs would be. The plan was to have a reproducable puppet and so i was hoping to sell maybe 50 or 100 heads or even have this as a small secondary income, so it was a super attractive project for me. I didn't quite expect her to be a rich woman who was playing business in lockdown because she was bored to then disappear forever :') She had 15 employees and the first half year she would always respond quickly and politely, she seemed really eager about this and invested a lot of money for CE certification courses (not sure if that's the same in your country but that's basically the things you need to know for putting a children's toy on the market). I didn't expect someone who spends hundreds of hours and euros for stuff like that to just disappear but apparently she got bored and decided to now play a different business. Pretty unfortunate experience and a MASSIVE waste of everyone's time, i know a graphic designer who lost almost 800 euros for this.
