All alone a white figure crossed an icey lake, just barely visable. He was hurrying home a fresh caught rabbit, eyes glazed over, growing cold in his muzzle, a wound from his teeth at it's throat. He wanted to get home to enjoy his prize before it froze and grew to hard to eat.
A small hill and a tagle or firr roots apearing in the distance, concealing a hole in the ground."home" he thought to himself. The snow blowing hard concealing the long line of paw prints behind him."almost there".
Wriggling his way carefully though the tangle of roots, the rabbit still clenched tight in his muzzle.making his way all the way to the back of his den, a budle of tiny grey figures huddled together for warmth.Baby Artic fox, there coats still grey with there new life.
There were four of them, all he had left of his mate. She had been taken for her fur not long ago. leaving him to take care of them by himself, all by himself. As he prepared the rabbit for his kits, they wined and crowded there father happily.
Callapsing on the ground, he watched his kits eat, there completly oblivious to the hard ships of the world. young, innocent, never even seen the outside yet.Yet here they where, being fed by a starving father, alone. There survival completly dependant soley on him.
one of his kits walked up to him, a small piece of rabbit, the only piece left in her tiny muzzle, dropping it on her fathers paws, the expression plain in her face. She wanted her father to eat. He hadn't eaten for a week now. exsausted from hunting he barely was able to chew anything. his energy exausted. His kits curling into little grey balls around there father. his Solid white fur and blue eyes contrasting with them, there eyes Amber, there fur grey.
Though barely finding the strength thoughout the months, he kept his kits fed, there tiny bodys growing larger every day until the time finaly came for spring, his energy finaly exausted. the kits able to fend for themselves,
he dragged himself to his mates remains, Laying down next to them. closeing his eyes once, twice, three times, and then no more his breathing slowing until finaly it stopped. his final thought. "I gave my children a chance at life for my kits, i lived a bleak life. but as i pass on i give theres a chance to be bright. i have no regrets."
