"These new limbs are incredible. Cybernetics were always on my list, I mean I have the basics but this is... next level. I knew the Commonwealth was generous to veterans but I never expected this! I'd only been Civil Guard for a year, of course there's a catch but it's a surprisingly acceptable one. The military would repair me and replace my limbs but only in return for one of their minimum service contracts. What they needed from me was boots on the ground, a field combat cybernetics surgeon, I almost laughed. My dads were worried for a good long while that follow in their footsteps so to speak.
Why top of the line technology though instead of moderate prosthesis? They certainly would get me onto the field sooner but I'm aiming for Examplar status and they knew it, I don't just want to be good, I want to be greater than great! Yes the tech demands higher performance but I can handle it. I survived a small-scale apocalypse... That and I want revenge and conventional won't be enough for that in the days ahead. I don't know who attacked us or why but it was definitely nuclear. Only nuclear warheads create that level of devastation and horror, millions flash vaporized into ash. I´m told the yield was only in the tactical range... otherwise even more minds would've been lost, saturation vs concentrated bombardment. Tactical only and yet such devastation, two million lives and I walk away with three months genetic repair therapy and a six-figure enhancement package?
The prosthesis replaced my eyes, the eyes my dads gave me, my heart... most of my upper torso and both of my arms. I mean it's small fry compared to most of the Civil Guard and the civilians... so many lives and I survive because a half-built arcology slope nearly crushed me by Phorous. I mean just look at these specs! Nano-carbon reinforcements throughout the construction, titanium baseline. Carbide style anti-wear in the joint works, bio-synthetic myomer bundles and neurachem-enhanced synthetic skin to wrap it all up in nice seamless integration with my muscular skeletal and nervous system. There are so many components I lose track! That's not even accounting for the micro-kinetic actuators, precision control systems in the hands, reinforced knuckles and the kicker? A built-in lightweight armour-light projector for ballistic and kinetic projection/protection. Of course I jumped at the service contract, you certainly cant buy it on the civilian markets. Of course five years eventually turned into thirty, I like to think I would've jumped even then had I known. Exemplary performance academically and a willingness to serve the Commonwealth, serve our people... that's the only way to gain entry to the most prestigious educational institution in the Commonwealth... the road to true Exemplar status, the Commonwealth High Academy of Advanced Science.
Normally you'd spend five years as a Civil Guard followed by a three year stint in the military, that's after academic achievement through the university level. Even with brain-direct learning technology that takes an awful lot of sweat. Call this war, short as it was a silver lining for me I suppose... more enhancements will follow as my standard-issue universal input/output port needs an overhaul and there are so many central nervous implants... but I'm going to serve and hurt whoever's left when the fleet gets done kicking their teeth in... maybe even go full bio-mech, who knows? Right now though I wanna punch something!" - Gedat Sedjet Rakkin Ei Bastin, Commonwealth Cybernetics Specialist, Examplar In Training, One month prior to the 3-day war.
A truly wonderful upgrade of my characters usual limb-based cybernetics! https://www.deviantart.com/loone-wolf did a truly wonderful job so I suggest you meander over to this Deviantart page and go give his mechanical works and other works a significant amount of favoring! A gorgeous bit of mechanical detail with replaceable skin patterning so it's never quite the same (though the sub-structure is likely to remain the same!) so I have options for later customization and alteration! Go check his artwork out, this boi is awesome!
