I'm not sure if this picture is "canon" to my setting or not, but the macro anthros in Isolation are by and large formerly normal humans. And since macros are usually created instead of born, namely to be used as anti-mech infantry, search and rescue specialists, police officers, or construction personnel, there often aren't enough macros around to have a lot of choice in significant others.
These pairings are also encouraged by the powers that be for the purposes of "grounding" said macros to their smaller fellows.
