In the modern world, the sightings of cryptids and other monsters are much rarer than the past. Some exist, some became things explained by science, and some simply blended in with the developments around them, remaining subtle and unseen. And yet urban legends persisted of what could only be described an enervore, a creature that could drain the living energy of things on contact, a dangerous monster that could devour your energy and leave you weak and helpless, perhaps even drain you entirely.

It's a good thing the modern world's technological advancements create such a powerful electrical field that such an entity could easily subsist off background absorption and never have to reveal itself. It certainly wouldn't be a problem if there was a blackout, denying such a cryptid of a food source, causing it to need to get close to people again lest it revert to a more monstrous form.

Gosh, your rodent friend is looking so strange with his glowing eyes and how clingy he suddenly is, wanting to cuddle up really close. But the enervore is just an urban legend, right?
