As a soldier, my best guess is hes doing the same thing every soldier does when they are new they get dressed in all their issues gear and strut around infront of the mirror, all proud of themselves for making it so far, striking poses, aiming at things and trying to look bad ass. For some... this energy eventually passes once they realize how hard being an soldier is..
