West Corner of the Park, D-day
I almost forgot to post this of all days, but am getting it out now.
Especially on the 66th anniversary of the Liberation of Europe.
Plus I was actually shocked that nobody...NOBODY Played 'The Longest Day' today on any channel.
I just watched it on DVD instead.

They actually had it running on a channel last weekend, for Memorial Day.
They also ran:
"In Harm's Way" - a favorite of mine;
"Patton" - another favorite;
"The Great Escape" -- in honor of the 50;
They even ran the farce, "Operation Petticoat," with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis.
I wish they'd have also run, "Run Silent, Run Deep;" "Torpedo Run;" "12 O'Clock High" (the MOVIE.. not the TV show).
And frankly "12 O'Clock High" has and always will have "Memphis Bell" beat by a mile.
God Bless our Vet's! The younger generation should learn from them, what real character is all about, IMO.

Wow... I didn't know that.
One thing I do know is that the TV series of the same name (with actor Robert Lansing) was filmed at what is now John Wayne Airport, in So. California. They military had deposited most of the remaining B-17's there, and Desilu used it for the series. Same studio was doing "The Untouchables" with Robert Stack.
We just had a B-17, a B-24 (which a relative of mine flew in WWII) and two Mustangs at the local airport for Memorial Day weekend.
I'll post the images soon. Walked through both and they are so narrow! To think they fought in such machines, looking larger than hell on the outside, cramped on the inside.

Oh, you mean like this? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2364618/
Erm. There were other days, many just as long.
D Day was an important moment of history. But it wasn't the only one. There were many other men and women and children who suffered and died in terrible conditions throughout all of history. And if they hadn't, then the results would just as dramatic for today's world as if D Day hadn't happened, or had gone horribly wrong.
I don't disagree with what you're saying. Pretty much the only thing we can do in recognition of what they did is to remember it, with as much detail and accuracy as possible. I just wish more people would remember all the other days just like it.

You are correct, there are numerous days that should be remembered, Right now we're approaching the 70th anniversary of the Blitz, Don't forget Dunkirk, Dieppe, Operation Torch, Sicily, Anzio, Crete, the Siege of Malta, Stalingrad, Kursk, Corrigadore , Bataan, Wake, Midway....I could go on and on.
One of my pet peeves is how most only know of historical events if they are in a major Hollywood movie or video game. My grandfather fought in Brest and nobody seems to mention that. Also a lot of nations that fought in WW2 really don't get much attention; Poland, Brazil, France, China, Canada, Australia, Finland, the list goes on.
