Chapter 5 Battles and talks

October 30th ,2557, Shadow of Intent above Planet Sanghelios

Sangheili Training ground

Sin carried on watching the match between Usze and Vale, as he heard Nala speak in her natural tongue with her father. As did the other Sangheili around him as Sin felt uncomfortable while thinking they were talking about him.

Causing Sin to keep his guard up as the sound of clashing wood echo around the room. As well as the cheers of the Sangheili as they cheer on whom they wanted to win. Sin then turn to see Nala was looking at him with a confused look.
“ You ok Sin! You seem to be what Vale called daydreaming there?” Nala asked Sin in English to speak to him.
“ Yeah sorry! Um I was just thinking about random stuff and how Vale was countering Usze attacks by using her speed and movement.” Sin replied as normal as he could to her.

Nala tilt her head as her mandibles click few times as she gave him a look of not buying it on bit. But decide to not challenge his words.

“Ah ok! Are you ready for our battle next then!” Nala asked him in a more cheerful tone.

“Oh yes I am, their nothing that beats a good sword duel.” Sin said to her with a smile on his face.


Nala gave the Sangheili version of smile to him, it was a fun pastime for her kind .To challenge each other in the skills of sword fighting to prove their worth as a warrior.

Most duels happen with the wooden swords/spears to teach the younger warriors as well as friendly competition or mating rituals. The only time they used real energy swords or energy staffs outside wars or hunting, was in fights to the death. These fights to the death were for betrayals to the keep or murders that happen in the keep or due to a person belonging to a keep.
If the betrayal/murder would happen in keep or anywhere in Sanghelios in general. Well their kaidon would be one that would take the disgrace head with their sword. Nala was surprise on how Humans culture was somewhat different from what Sin told her. Their death penalty was only given to someone who had committed high crimes like traitors or mass murders. The less bad criminals would be lock in jail for an amount of time due to their crime.

When in Sangheili culture the less bad criminals would be given the choice of banishment from the keep or a duel to mercy or death with the chosen warrior of the Kaidon. Most chose the duel due to if you were seeing as being banished, you were look down on by other keeps as scum. As only the more shady keeps would accept them, but they would become slaves to them.

So it was better to take the chance in the duel and hope to earn the respect and mercy of the Kaidon. From the duel with the Kaidon chosen warrior.

They both then heard a war cry come from Vale as she doge the swung of the staff of Usze .As it smashed into ground as dust went flying from the impact. Taking him by surprise and a few other Sangheilis as the Arbiter look on with interests to see what would happen next.

Vale had a smirk on her face but was hidden inside her helmet, as she saw the annoyance in her friend face. Using her speed she quickly slide between his legs to his shock. But before he could react he felt Vale powerfully kick his legs from under him hard. Causing him to yell in pain as he collapsed to ground losing his balance from the surprise attack.

Quickly as she could she jump kick back up and before Usze could move his weapon to stop her. Vale had press down the wooden sword blade agents his jugular.

`’ Yield!” Vale snared to Usze, as by know she had put her full weight onto his body and stopping him moving.

“ I…. Yield!” Usze said in an upset and shamed tone, that he lost as he was proud warrior and losing was never fun.

But he then smiled he did lose but he lost to a true warrior. Vale she was a true warrior in his mind. An would made wonderful mate for him WAIT! Why did he just think about that about his close friend.

As he blush a bit but before he could carry on thinking about what his mind was thinking he then heard the Arbiter voice.

“ Well done Vale you used your speed to out remover you enemy and Usze you need to learn that strength will not always work. An you need to work on your guard and self awareness. How ever, you have done well young Usze your improvements keep impressing me and I know you will become one of our strongest warriors. ” The Arbiter said to them both, as he gave them his opinion on their match.

“ Thank you Arbiter you praise means a lot to me.” Vale said in a respectful tone to the Sangheili leader, as she bought her fist to her chest.

“ Thank you Arbiter I will improve from my mistakes and show you that I will be the warrior you say I will be.” Usze bow his head down in respect to the Arbiter.

Arbiter just nod his head, as two walk away from the circle as a few Sangheili who watching were talking in their tongue about the battle. As the Arbiter then called over to Sin and Nala to start their battle, as they both grab a wooden staff while they then walk over to centre area of the battle arena.

As they turn to bow and put their fist to their chest in respect to the Arbiter as he gave the order to begin. The two then circle around each other as Sin held the staff in left hand as he watch Nala like a Lion hunting his prey. As he saw Nala eyes went to slit as she let out a war cry before charging at him. Starting their fight as Sin parries her back using the handle of the sword sending her back a tiny bit. Nala then snare, as she swore she could see Sin giving her a cheeky smirk with that helmet on.

“ Im going to wipe that grin off you face.” She said with amusement as she charge him once more.

Arbiter kept his eyes on the battle as he then heard the door opening up behind him. As a Sangheili walk over to him, but the Arbiter didn’t turn around to see, since he knew whom it was.

“ Come to join the battles Rtas.” Arbiter asked his friend.

“ Yes! As well was wording if you’re up for a match after your warriors have finish.” Rtas said to him.

“ Hmmm I suppose it would help get rid of some stress, but shall we get back to watching the match.” Arbiter said to him.

“In deed.” Rtas replied as they both watch and heard the bangs of the swords of Nala and Sin battling with each other.
