How does their necromancy work? Do they summon the original soul back into the body? Is it just magical puppetry of an empty vessel? Some other spirit that possesses/animates the remains?

I would imagine the original soul or spirit is drawn back to the vessel, but it's only a remnant of the original. Making it easier to control, but still have some shape of awareness so it wont completely 'lights on with nobody home'.
