A portrait done to practice a few things:
- Fur texture
- Fire lighting
- Edges (hard lights, sort darks)
I'm very happy with how this turned out! It seems almost like it's a frame from a CGI film. (a Redwall CG film would be epic)
Who is he? Baron, a character from a story of mine except with either his eye patch off, or before he injured his eye. (the patched eye being on the far side though)
Hope you all like it. Enjoy! ^^

Certainly - it also gives me more confidence when it turns out well too.
Baron is from a story I'm developing that involves my main character Temiree. It more or less involves Temiree searching for his lost little brother. Baron is one of the characters he meets along the way. =)
Considering trying to do a graphic novel of it once I get the plot all ironed out - but the basic stuff is all there.

Great practice. Love the lighting. Some of the fur texturing looks a bit off... maybe the strokes for the cheek were a bit too long. I'm sorry I'm not better at critiquing. All I know is when something seems a little off, but I have a hard time figuring out how to fix it and often exactly what it is thats off. Hmmm... also where the clothing meets the fur on the shadowed side something is throwing my eye a bit. Hope this helps otterbro.
I tried doing shorter strokes on the fur, but I found it was adding too much detail to that area and drawing away from his eyes and expression. I tried to give it a layered look though, rather than anything too "strokey." I hope that makes sense. x)
I think if anything is off, it might be the clothing. It seems a bit too simple compared to the rest of him, even after I tried adding some fabric texture. =P
Thanks!

Baron's expression reminds me of the story of one of my mother's RP sessions. I can't tell the long version as well as she can, but the short version is, a single angry badger completely decimated the adventuring party.
The beast in question was no different than you'd expect. He had no magic about him, and no enhancements or mutations; he was just your average, everyday badger... but some god of the realm must have liked him. Every other attack he made resulted in critical damage, while every other attack the adventurers made missed completely.
