This took the better part of two days because I lit it both characters and the bench from six directions. The directionality doesn't show through nearly well enough to justify that, but the process lets me change every aspect of the image at the last second. I could decide to swap out the background for a night scene with strong blue lighting from above / below and it wouldn't take ten minutes. Every layer is a solid color with a busy alpha channel. On an unrelated note, the smudge tool in GIMP is apparently capable of begging for mercy.
I've been meaning to re-do one another picture involving Shayla and a bench, but don't hold me to it.

First, let me say it is lovely and that in no way could I possibly come close to doing such a job. With that said though, I think that the image is just a tad too dark. I mean, it gives a great sunset look and all but I think that some of the detail is lost in the shadows. However, the brightness of Shayla's eyes stabbed me and really pulled me into it. All and all, it is amazing, just thought I'd give my tiny little critique as an armchair critic. :D
I almost added a faux HDR layer that would've brightened up the center of the image, but after playing around with it for a while I decided against. I didn't like the way it brought out his neck and the inked hard shadow in Shayla's lap. The intent keep Fen's fur as close to black as possible made it tricky to keep his lines visible, especially near the face, but I felt the bounced light from his shirt and her knee picked out his cheek and ear well enough to make up for the dim direct lighting. All the detail lost to black is near but not on Fen's face, framing it for relative brightness.
It looks fine on my screen - I'm genuinely sorry if it doesn't match the gamma curve on yours or anyone else's.
