The track worked out as planned and required little adjustment other than smearing some grease along the inner railhead to stop some grinding in a couple of tight spots.
The locomotive worked well and ran all day on a single set of marine batteries. With my track sitting on a somewhat steep grade in the parking lot and adults wanting to ride I eventually started riding the engine itself to increase adhesion.

The rails are made from high strength structral aluminum and I haven't seen any type of damage caused by wheelslip or grinding as off yet. Thats other than the inner railhead having a bit of a "rough" feeling when you run your finger along it.
I might be able to add some additional weight using steel plates if I can find the correct size. The batteries inside the casing take up alot of room.
