In Germany you do see that kind of stuff a lot but never on anything significant like a historic building or a statue, and usually it is small, like you don’t notice until you get close. One exception I remember is near Salzburg (culturally similar to Germany) someone painted on a barn by the highway “Südtirol ist nicht Italen” (South Tirol is not Italy. I may have butchered that). Small things I saw were anti-NATO membership, pro-Palestinian independence, all sorts of things.
