Telsa's always been pretty strong. When he began to climb, all he had was a lot of decrepit skyscrapers with flat surfaces to get around on. So, putting 2 and 2 together, Telsa began training his strength to create his own hand and foot-holds. Unfortunately, this wasn't exactly a gentle process.
Hm, while nothing builds up fortitude like dealing with the pain, being in a state of recovery from the wounds gained by climbing would not only leave him vunerable should combat occur, but would mean no training until the appendages are less pulpy.
